Meet the Board
Board President - Cecilia Koo

Cecilia Koo graduated from Smith College in 1992 and received her M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1996. She taught second grade for San Francisco Unified School District during her first year of teaching at George Washington Carver Elementary School, Hunters Point, CA. Thereafter, she spent two more years teaching second grade in Silicon Valley at Vargas Elementary School, Sunnyvale, CA. She has been a Stay-at-Home mom since the birth of her two children, Yasmin and Ethan, and spends most of her time volunteering in their schools and heads various committees. She recently served as the Liaison for the Torrey Pines High School Varsity Girls Varsity Volleyball and Boys Varsity Basketball programs. Currently, she is a Board Member for CalParents at UC Berkeley.

Board Treasurer – Tanner Kortman

Tanner Kortman is a local educator who is passionate about preparing students to prosper as they navigate increasingly demanding social, cultural, athletic, and academic pressures. He has spent the more than a decade coaching and teaching in the same community that fostered his own initial love for volleyball as a young student athlete. Tanner also brings extensive experience with educational non-profits, and has been a reliable steward of the financial responsibilities of his current position as Canyon Crest Academy's ASB Director. Along the way he has garnered his school's Teacher of the Year honors, a Junior Olympic Medal at the USA Volleyball Championships, 3 CIF League Championships, and several community service accommodations for the student government body he directs. Tanner will be the first to tell you that this success is reliant on the young men and women in classrooms and on teams around the county who challenge themselves every day to improve, engage, and be a force for change.

Board Secretary – Lauren Engle

Lauren Engle joined the board in Fall of 2016, bringing a wealth of experience in competitive volleyball as a player and coach. A four-year varsity lettermen and All-CIF outside hitter at La Jolla High School, Lauren earned a full scholarship to continue her volleyball career at Hofstra University. Starting for "The Pride" all four years, Engle’s team won the Colonial Athletic Association Conference Championship her sophomore year and reached the second round of the NCAA Division 1 tournament. She was voted team captain her senior season and was chosen as the Female Student-Athlete to represent Hofstra on the NCAA 2009 Accreditation Committee. In addition, Engle was on the Dean’s List from 2005-09, the Provost List in 2008-09 and was an Academic Presidential Scholar. Capping a stellar 4-year career, Lauren was selected the 2009 Hofstra Student-Athlete of the Year and the ’09 Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2009 with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Marketing. She is currently employed as the Operations Manager for Power Ten, Inc., an engineering services company that supports the Department of Defense.
